Frequently Asked Questions

  • What does a Director of Customer Operations actually do at a LiDAR software company?

At a Physical AI software company, the customer operations director bridges the gap between technical deployment and business outcome. The role typically owns post-sale implementation, integration partner management, and customer health across industries from aviation to logistics. At Outsight, where the SHIFT platform is active across airports such as Dallas Fort Worth and Paris-Charles de Gaulle, train stations, factories, and smart-city intersections on five continents, that scope is particularly broad. Because LiDAR deployments span edge hardware, cloud pipelines, and third-party systems, the function requires both engineering fluency and commercial accountability, coordinating across sensor vendors, system integrators, and end-operator teams simultaneously.

  • Why do LiDAR software deployments need dedicated customer operations leadership?

Infrastructure-based Physical AI deployments are not plug-and-play installations. Each site requires sensor placement simulation, edge processing configuration, integration with existing business systems such as flight databases or warehouse management platforms, and ongoing tuning against operator-defined KPIs. Outsight's SHIFT platform, for instance, spans 3D simulation, digital twin creation, and open integrations across airports, train stations, and factories on five continents, making structured customer operations essential from day one. A dedicated operations function reduces time-to-value, prevents configuration drift over months of operation, and gives operators a single accountable contact when performance thresholds are missed.

  • How does Google Cloud experience translate to deploying on-premise LiDAR edge solutions?

Google Cloud engineering roles involve architecting distributed data pipelines, managing multi-tenant workloads, and delivering against enterprise SLAs at scale. Those patterns transfer directly to edge-cloud hybrid LiDAR deployments, where raw point-cloud data is processed locally for sub-50ms latency and selectively forwarded to cloud analytics layers. Outsight's SHIFT platform follows exactly this architecture, combining on-site 3D perception with cloud-side analytics and open integrations across airport, factory, and smart-city sites. Experience with large industrial verticals such as automotive and logistics also maps well to the multi-site, multi-sensor deployments Outsight runs for customers like BMW factories and Dallas Fort Worth Airport.

  • What role do system integrators play in LiDAR-based spatial intelligence projects?

Global system integrators handle procurement, on-site installation, local regulatory compliance, and often ongoing maintenance contracts that the software vendor does not staff directly. In airport and smart-city deployments, integrators such as INDRA or SICE act as the primary contractor, embedding the spatial intelligence platform within a broader infrastructure upgrade. SICE, for example, works with Outsight's SHIFT platform to deploy 3D LiDAR perception across train stations in Spain, coordinating hardware from multiple vendors while the platform maintains a unified Motional Digital Twin across all sites. The software vendor's customer operations function works through these partners to ensure technical fidelity across dozens of locations without needing direct presence at each one.

  • How does Outsight deliver support across time zones given its global deployment footprint?

Outsight operates seven offices across three continents: Paris, Sophia-Antipolis, and Alicante in Europe; San Francisco and Dallas in the United States; Singapore and Hong Kong in Asia. That geographic spread enables follow-the-sun engineering coverage, so a sensor anomaly flagged at a Singapore airport at local midnight reaches an active support team in Europe rather than waiting for business hours. This matters in practice because the SHIFT platform runs 24/7 operations across deployments on five continents, including high-traffic environments such as Dallas Fort Worth and Paris-Charles de Gaulle, where any gap in monitoring translates directly into missed events or delayed responses.

  • What industries are adopting LiDAR-based Physical AI outside aviation?

Active deployments span several verticals. BMW uses infrastructure-based Physical AI across automotive factories for worker safety and autonomous mobile robot coordination. Sacyr's Hospital Cognitivo in Madrid applies people flow monitoring to healthcare facilities. The City of Bellevue, Washington uses it for intersection safety under a Vision Zero program. Energy and logistics operators are deploying perimeter intrusion detection and warehouse throughput monitoring. Outsight's Motional Digital Twin underpins several of these use cases, tracking the movement of people, vehicles, and robots in real time through infrastructure-mounted LiDAR rather than sensors attached to the moving entities themselves. The common thread across all verticals is a need to monitor movement anonymously and in real time across a defined physical site.
